Oracle OpenWorld leverages social media for the first time

In Events on September 19, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Oracle OpenWorld San Francisco is scheduled to happen this September 21 – 25, 2008. For the first time, Oracle is making a concerted effort to leverage social media technologies to help maximize the experience for media, bloggers and anyone else who is interested.

To keep up to date with news, developments and events, Oracle users can monitor the following:

  • JAPAC Twitter Feedstay in touch with announcements, videos, and perspectives from Asia as and when they happen.
  • Oracle JAPAC YouTube Channelgain access to videos captured by roaming mobile videographers, who will focus on capturing perspectives relevant to organizations within the Asia Pacific & Japan region.
  • Oracle OpenWorld 2008 Influencer Community on Oracle Mix – Oracle Mix is Oracle’s business networking technology for bringing Oracle customers, partners, developers and employees together. The Influencer Community is a private community for bloggers, reporters, influencers and Oracle’s corporate communications team. Forum is used to suggest programming ideas for Oracle OpenWorld, ask questions of Oracle’s corporate communications team, and provide feedback leading up to and through the event.

  • OpenWorld BlogNew this year, the blog is used to start a dialogue about the conference and enables content-area experts and attendees to share insights about all aspects of the conference — from where to stay and things to do in San Francisco to session content.

It is interesting to see how big companies are trying to catch up with the rest of their advanced users with the use of social media technologies. As to whether this will be effective shall be seen next week as the event unfolds. We will be interested to know about your social media use observations during this event.

Of course, this may be big thing for them. Although for most bloggers, this has already become a minimum requirement for events. The use of live streaming, blogs, micro blogs, and other social media tools are a must these days.
